GloomsVille Prelude

Because to live in fear…is what we fear the most…

Dear Ms. Teek,

The captives have been freed, the society has been restored to it’s usual state…or at least what one might call usual for a town as Unusual as this.  Of course there is still the occasional pillage and plunder of this unfortunate town, but they don’t call it GloomsVille for nothing. It’s definitely not a place to settle down.  You may ask why any sane, self-respecting person would live in a most troubling town as this.  The answer to this can be put very simply, the people of GloomsVille are masochists.  Yup, every last one of them enjoy the pain, suffering, and turmoil that befalls any soul that inhabits the town.  When asked why exactly he stays in a town with such wretched luck, a simple peasant responded, “There’s just a pleasurable sensation received when ones home is destroyed, when the people you love are being taken away, or when ones well-being is put in danger.  Don’t you feel it too?”  After a nice long stare into this fellows countenance, trying to comprehend the poor man’s reasoning, I deemed it pointless and bid him a good day and farewell.  He responded with, “Let’s hope not and farewell to you as well!”  Might I add with a little too much enthusiasm than one might expect.

Although I could go on and on about how unpleasant GloomsVille is, this is not the reason I write to you now.  But before I get into that, I seem to have forgotten to introduce myself.  My name is Blake Fierce.  I am a journalist for the Washington Herald assigned to unravel the shroud of mystery that shields GloomsVille from modern civilization.  At first I was reluctant to take the job, I mean, who in their right mind would move to a town that no one knew anything about and with a name like GloomsVille I’d be surprised if any tourists traveled there at all.  However, after I read the file on what I was to report on and WHO, I gave it another chance and hopped on the first flight out to GloomsVille, France.  Aside from the information I have already given you, there is still a plethora of information I have gathered during my two years in GloomsVille.  Instead of putting more strain on my brain with all those occurrences, interviews, and countless number of personal experiences, I have enclosed copies of the journal I kept during my stay.  You probably ask why I’ve sent all this to you, Ms. Teek, but I am afraid the only possible way you can understand my intentions is if you know the whole story.  With that knowledge, all will become clear.  I bid you adieu, my dear friend.  And you will NOT hear from me again.

Sincerely,

B. Fierce
