A Knight’s Tale

You may remember this movie, A Knight’s Tale (2001).  I can’t help it but I am a hopeless romantic.  I love this movie because 1) It takes place in midieval times, I adore the way they speak. 2) It has many witty and romantic remarks in the movie.  I used to imagine meeting my future wife this way…

William rides, on his horse, into the village for a tournament.  He is enjoying the sites of the village.  Suddenly, he notices a beautiful woman, dressed in white, walking down the street.  She stares at him for a brief moment, and walks in the opposite direction.  Captivated, William follows her.  The woman is a noble and meets with her ladies maid.   She knows he is following, but she continues walking.  William is mesmerized by her beauty, following closely behind her now.  The lady and her ladies maid laugh and smile as William trails behind them.  “Will you speak to me?” William asks.  Without realizing it, they walk into a church.  “Ah *sigh* …to speak.  But sir, my sex are marked by their silence.”  the woman replies.  “Oh but I would hear you speak, if it cost me my ears!” William states.  “That is well, for I do not want silence in my life!”  the woman says.  “Tell me your name!” commands William.  The woman laughs sweetly, stops, and faces William, “Would you care if I were ugly?”  “Why yes!” William replies, but catches himself, “I mean no!”  The woman now appears confused.  Suddenly, the bishop of the church yells, “You dare desecrate the house of God!”  Now, the church attendants slowly walk toward William on his horse, directing them out of the church.  William realizes where he is, and the woman giggles.  He whispers to the woman, “Uh…tell me your name woman!”  “And what will you do with my name, Sir Hunter?” the woman replies.  “Call me a fox, for that is all I am to you!”  “A fox?” William asks.  “Well than a fox you shall be, until I find your name.  My foxy lady!”  At that time, he is forced to leave the church.  The woman whispers to her ladies maid, “He is a handsome hunter, I’ll give him that.” They begin to giggle.  The Bishop hears her remark, “Does this not shock you, ladies?!”  The woman smiles at her ladies maid and faces the Bishop, “Certainly, my Lord! I…I just…I only laugh, for us to keep from weeping!”  She puts on a serious face for the Bishop.  The Bishop walks over to the woman.  “Beauty is such a curse.” The Bishop states, “Pray your years come swiftly, pray that your beauty fades so that you may better serve, God!”  The woman struggles to keep from laughing, “Oh and I do, My Lord!  I pray for it all the time!”  She looks up, “Why God did you curse me with this face?” She then gestures toward her face.  The Bishop replies, “God’s will has a purpose, but we may not know it.”  He then holds out his hand, for the woman to kiss his ring.  The woman takes his hand and examines the ring, “Well that is lovely!”  The Bishop appears appalled, pulls his hand from her grasp, and walks away.

I love the power of youtube, i found the whole movie there.  So I found the exact scene for you.  William first sees the woman at 50 seconds into the clip, and the scene ends after 4 minutes into the clip.  enjoy!

There is still much more I want to put about this movie, but I am sort of writing this in the dead of night, when i’m not supposed to.  Need to go to bed before I am caught.  Will write more later.

  • Aww… this sounds like a really cool movie. I love these movies. Damn bandwidth, else I’d be downloading it now. Hm. Wonder whether I can rent it. Oh well.
/me chuckles at the free spirits part
Yup, no matter how much those beaurocratic tyrants oppress us, we poets will survive and protest… we and our works shall remain free and unaffected : P
AP classes? You are so lucky. We don’t get that here in South Africa… so I have to rely on wikipedia and taking extra subjects to get somewhere faster.
    /me grins
Good luck with all the work and those two essays.
More characters? Oh good. *smiles* I can’t wait. Three more days. Hm. They better fill out those surveys quickly. And I want whatever you’ve written, the day you’ve wriiten it. I would demand it the minute that you wrote it, but that could be kind of hard : P
Hm. I’m supposed to be doing a summary for homework. Maybe I should try using my summarizing skills on my comments instead of writing you an essay almost every time….

  • lol. I managed to get my hands on it. And yo uare right, it is brilliant. My favourite character is the poet. He always seems to be able to come up with something to get them out of trouble at a moment’s notice. lol. His intros are always hilarious. My favourite part is the one where the red-headed dude says something in the line of “I’ll never understand women” and the poet replies “And yet, they understand us perfectly. Except you, maybe.” lol.

  • oh, I like watch that movie. It’s so romantic and funny at the same time.
